You could scarcely wish for a more dramatic location on which to create a golf course. It was clear from the outset that this golf course would be designed to maximize the impact of its natural, rugged and beautiful surroundings.
Oubaai Golf Club was designed with its philosophy rooted in flexibility; the course itself has been sculpted in accordance with the landscape, ensuring that the surrounding environment is enhanced and not hindered. The result is a lush stretch of land that is framed by the magnificent Outeniqua Mountains which hover in the distance, while the Gwaing River Valley winds a vicarious route just below the course. The Indian Ocean provides the perfect backdrop for the par 3signature hole.
The layout of the course is a traditional Links, and measures 6516 m from the pro tee’s. The resort offers a clubhouse with its own pro shop, locker rooms with showers, bar and restaurant. The most photographed hole is the 17th where you stand with a green below you and the Indian Ocean framing your view. With a mere 144 metres from the back, one would be forgiven for thinking this is an easy hole. The green is guarded by 4 bunkers with ever changing winds and elevation making it one of the most challenging plays, however this hole does offer an opportunity for whale watching.
